The massage of His Excellency the Ambassador of The Republic of Yemen
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Reunification of Yemen

The Republic of Yemen celebrates on the 22nd of May every year its National Day, marking the reunification of the country on this day in 1990 after it remained splitted for long years due to the British colonial presence in south Yemen, which continued for 128 years, and also due to the backward kingdom system, which continued for long centuries in the north of the country.

This situation caused the people of Yemen to suffer from backwardness and to be deprived of the blessings of education and progress, the splitting of the country prevented the nation from fulfilling of its hopes and ambitions for making Yemen a developed and prosperous country, self governed by its people, and employ its potentials, resources and powers to build a strong institutional and prosperous state, till the time that a revolution came on 26th September 1962 and reinforced on 14th October 1963 against the "Imama" in the north of the Homeland, and against the colonialism in its south.
This led to historic victory against those two enemies by the people, and crowned with fulfilling the dream of the whole Yemeni nation by their reunification on 22nd of May in 1990.
The people of Yemen by celebrating this occasion on 22nd May 2010 have passed 20 years of unity, participation and continued modernization, and was able to build the modern and prosperous Yemen and was also able by the cohesion of the sons of the soil to surmount a number of difficulties and obstacles which intercepted its march in the sphere of the socio economic development and buildup a strong and advanced economy, and to face the various challenges in the form of separatist forces, who's interests were harmed by the great reunification event, and by countering terrorist elements, in the form of the terrorist Al Qaeda organization.

While we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Yemen we feel delighted and proud of the progress we achieved in our national reunification march, and to surmount a series of obstacles and difficulties, the people of Yemen feel further proud of the democratic and pluralistic environment resulted by the reunification march in the form of press freedom, human rights protection, legislative and presidential free and fair elections, and ensuring vast authorities by the constitution for the local councils' elections and the councils of various governorates.

From this perspective the reunification process continues its contributions for the good of Yemen, and as a safety valve for the stability and security of the region and its prosperity. Furthermore the sagacious foreign policy adopted by Yemen has promoted its relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and Arab and Islamic countries, and made it an effective and positive factor in foreign relations and in developing and promoting bilateral interests with all countries in accordance with the UN Charter and other regional organizations, on the basis of mutual respect of national sovereignty and non interference in internal affairs.

It gives me pleasure on this occasion to felicitate the great people of Yemen and the leader of its reunification process His Excellency President Ali Abdullah Saleh, President of the Republic. I am also honored to extend sincerest thanks to the brotherly people of Pakistan on their hospitality for their Yemeni brothers who are living or studying in Pakistan, and to His Excellency President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for their efforts to develop the bilateral relations between the two countries which are rapidly prospering due to the interest given by the political leaderships of both the countries.
We therefore confidently look forward for the future to witness further development of relations between the two countries and for the development and growth of their societies, which may serve the interests of their brotherly people.
