BILATERAL RELATIONS (YEMEN - PAKISTAN)

Pic 1Yemen has always aspired to extend and strengthen the relations with Islamic Countries, keeping in view the importance of co-operation between the Islamic Countries.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries started in the 1972, and the Yemeni embassy was inaugurated in Islamabad in 11-7-1981 and Pakistan opened embassy in the same year.

Accordingly the two countries exchange visits and agreed to form joint commission for economic and technical co-operation, that was the first step to promote the relations between Yemen and Pakistan..
The reciprocal visits of the officials of the two countries in the eighties and the beginning of nineties played an important role to boost the bilateral relations. H.E Ali Abdullah Saleh President of Republic of Yemen visited Pakistan in December 1987 which resulted in signing a number of agreements to co-operate in various sectors that strengthen the relations between the two countries. At the same year also, agreement for Cultural Co-operation signed in Sana'a. A prominent visit was paid by Prime Minister of Pakistan Mrs. Benazir Bhutto to Yemen in 1999, and it was agreed upon to co-operate in various fields.

The first session of Yemeni Pakistani Commission held In March 1988, identied the fields of co-operation between the two countries..

Pic 1The second session of the commission held in Sana'a in 1991 and it was agreed on to co-operate in many field. The Vice President of the Republic of Yemen paid an official visit to Pakistan in 1997 and discussed issues concerning bilateral interests.

The Third Session of the Yemeni Pakistani joint Commission held in Islamabad., in 1999, and a number of draft agreements were discussed.

The forth session of Yemen Pakistan joint commission held in Sana'a in March 2004, and a number of agreements were signed as follow:
1. Agreement for Trade Co-operation.
2. Protocol for co-operation between Yemen and Pakistan.
3. Agreement of prevention of double taxation.
4. Agreement of health co-operation.
A very important visit to Yemen was paid by H.E.. Parvis Musharraf President of Pakistan on (4-6) Dec.2005 , and Security agreement ,a Schedule Air Services agreement, a Protocol of cooperation in Oil,Gas & Mineral Resources and Protocol Education & Vocational training had been signed
New development of the relation between the two brotherly countries witnessed by visit of H.E. Ali Abdullah Saleh President of the Republic of Yemen to Republic of Pakistan on( 10_12) April 2006.


A number of Agreements, Protocols and MoUwere signed at that visit as follow:
1. media coorperation
2. tourism
3. standardization and quality specification
4. sports and youth
5. Promotion of Exports


H.E Shaukat Aziz Pakistan Prime Minister paid a visit to Yemen on 10-13 December 2006, where 4 agreement for cooperation on the field of Education and Scientific Research, Agriculture and livestock resource and Culture as well as a Protocol to establish Joint Businessmen Council between the tow countries.
The leaders of both countries expressed the political will to strengthen the relations between the brotherly people taking advantage of the existing potentials in the two countries.
Government of Pakistan provides some seats for Yemeni students as exchange of scholarships.
In the field of trade, Yemen import Pakistan Products worth about 70 millions US Dollars per year.

Both countries trying to move ahead to implement all the agreements signed between them. And to explore areas to enhance the bilateral between the two countries.
